We Believe in the magic of words We believe in the power of language, the beauty of poetry, and the significance of experiencing the works of Shakespeare by reading them aloud with friends.
We believe that the communal act of reading aloud in a public setting brings a breadth and joy to Shakespeare's words that is different from reading alone, or watching a play. |
We meet once a monthOn the third Saturday of every month we meet at the Linebaugh Library Boardroom to read one of Shakespeare's plays aloud. We read round-robin style, each reader taking the next line for the next character in the play. We move through the canon of Shakespeare's plays reading one play each month. Anyone is invited to come and read any play that appeals to you on any Saturday we are reading, or simply come and listen or read along to yourself.
No commitment is necessary. Simply show up and live these works with us. |
Bring the play, take a chairWe meet at 11:45 am. There will be 16 chairs in a circle and whoever wants to read out loud can choose one of the 16. There will be additional seating available for anyone who wants to read along silently. (Although we might ask you to pipe in for crowd scenes!) The reading starts at 12:00 pm. We will take a 15 minute break in the middle of each play. During the break readers inside the circle can give up their seats to anyone outside of the circle who would like a turn to read out loud.
Some copies of the play will be available, but please bring your own if possible. |
